Hello everyone, how are you today? What do you think? Does your stress have an impact on your eczema or atopic dermatitis? Does it make it worse? Are there other factors that play into it? Have you noticed a connection between your other conditions and your eczema?
Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences here!

My doctor says I have eczema because I have Asthma and COPD, he says they are linked.
I have bad eczema at the moment and he put me on Fucibet cream, if I stop using it even for one day it comes back worse so h s referring me to a dermatologist.

Stress makes my eczema worse as I tend to itch more and it comes out more redder and patchy

I am certain stress is a huge trigger for me. I've had eczema since a toddler, under control for most of the time with avoiding biological detergents, cats, etc. However, some years ago my dad had cancer. We were told on Xmas eve that he was terminal. By mid Jan I was covered in open weeping scratched eczema. My GP referred me to the hospital and I had a 6 month intensive treatment with strong steroid+antibiotic creams. I also had a 4 session hypnotherapy treatment (I paid) centred on stress, anxiety and loss. These helped quite a lot but my eczema only truly abated some months after dad had died. I now have the strong creams on my repeat and as soon as I get highly stressed I order one and get on it before I get so bad. I've also worked on myself with mindfulness and I have the recordings of my hypno that I can listen to as I fall asleep. So far I'm doing much better than ever before. Stress is key for me.

@Caron63 That's so interesting, I had no idea that there was a link between respiratory conditions and eczema! Fascinating how the body works, isn't it? Hope you're doing better.
I agree, I definitely think stress is a trigger for my eczema. It always seems to flare up when I'm going through a difficult time. It was especially bad in lockdown for me. Did anyone else notice their eczema was worse in lockdown?

@Johannawarren2002 Hello. I went through a similar situation to you, and my eczema got worse. In the preceding years I have had a lot of insomnia, and this has caused my eczema to come back.
Almost 2 years ago, I had the most severe insomnia (for several weeks) that I have ever had, and my sleep was terrible. I improved it a bit by staying awake all night one night and making myself exhausted to help me get to sleep. During the weeks when my insomnia was chronic, my eczema exploded. It was worse than it had ever been. I would wake up after a short amount of sleep and my arms, legs and head felt like they were on fire. I would scratch very hard for about 20 minutes every night, and often during the daytime. I was so exhausted I could not see how bad my skin was for a long time. Even almost 2 years on it has not improved a great deal. I have been seeing a dermatologist but have not been able to see him for about 6 months now which is frustrating.
All the stress and anxiety I have experienced in the last few years has occurred since my dad died. This is the main trigger for my insomnia which caused my eczema to worsen.

@Johannawarren2002 I've never thought of hypnotherapy for a skin condition. I'm guessing it was for lowering or coping with stress?
For me it's kind of a never-ending cycle at some times. I can't sleep because of the itch and the pain, and then the itch and the pain gets worse because of the poor sleep. I can't win.

Morning everyone,
I have asthma and a few respiratory allergies, but for the past several weeks I've had patches of eczema on my hands and neck. For my GP the only treatments has been cortisone cream, which works... until I run out of the cream and the patches reappear after two days.
I've been very stressed the past few months, as I think most of us have been, so I was wondering if you think that the stress and the eczema, and maybe even the asthma are linked?
