did you have trouble posting the second message? If yes, let me know what went wrong, so that I could help you.
Kind regards,

Hi Belinda, my nurse taught me to breath-in deeply and then expel all the air until nothing left in your lungs. You must do this 5 times, then on the last one give an extra gasp. This should loosen up the mucus, it is very tiring but helped me recently.

I have just been back to my GP for my repeat subs I asked the Doc about my coughing in the mornings the test that you blow into a tube came back normal in fact the nurse said my lungs were in a condition for a man 3 years younger than me I'm 71 the GP said today that COPD was not even written on my records can you have COPD and still get a normal reading on this spirometry test

Hi Belinda
I have suffered this for years & when you go into a coughing fit the only things that helps me is either a fishermans friend original or a jakemans blackcurrant & liquorice Just sucking them helps me out

For shifting sticky or stubborn mucus, amongst other things, I do "postural drainage", which involves excusing yourself from the people you are with and finding a space where you can comfortably get on hands and knees, with posterior uppermost, and head down, resting on your crossed wrists. When in position, draw in a deep breath, and rather than coughing, you must "huff", or expel the air rapidly several times, and soon you will feel the mucus moving in your airway, and when this happens a further couple of short huffs will bring the offending mucus into your throat, where you must choose to either expel it into a cloth or tissue, or swallow it. This is a tiring thing to do, but where circumstances permit, this type of "clear out" makes you feel so much better, and the effects of such a "clear-out" for me, last a couple of hours or so, on a bad day, but probably 5 or 6 hours on a good day.

You can get tablets to help you fetch the mucus up called Carbocisteine,, take two 3 times a day to start with,,,but takes a Month to work,, but it breaks down the phelm, and helps getting it up,,,

Hi Belinda, sucking boiled sweets helps some but dentist would not approve. I find throat lozenges work too as do warm none milky drinks. I have a constant cough so have tried alsorts since diagnosed in 2009. Best wishesat finding something.
