Hi, was diagnosed after a routine blood test showed some abnormalities. I don't really know what kind but they said I had diabetic nephropathy. It isn't bad but have to take medication. No symptoms for now really. Or I don't notice them

Hi, I have episodes of high blood pressure, so I was told it might bring on kidney problems later if I don't succeed in controlling my blood pressure. Would like to know how the diagnosis is made. Just in case..

Don't hesitate to share your experience with the care pathway you have been following since your diagnosis.
In your opinion, did the doctor who estabished the diagnosis explained well enough to you what it means to have a diabetic nephropathy and what treatment options you have? For example, did they tell you about dialysis and kidney transplantation?

Hi @nineoneone you have to do a urine and a blood test, or several it depends on what substance they are looking for.
My doctor explained lots of things to mewhen the diagnosis was made.. anyway I was expecting comlications as my blood pressure has been hectic and I am "skightly" overweight
But I was still scared and I am right now. I started reading a lot on the internet and it doesn't help. It seems there are not so many people with this type of complication, or I just haven't been lucky to find them.
How did others react to the diagnosis?

I was diagnosed with kidney problems following routine bloods. I have medication and been told as long as I keep it under control should be ok. Losing weight exercise and blood sugar level control is essential. May not have symptoms unless blood pressure is very high

How were you diagnosed with diabetic nephropathy? Did it happen during a routine check-up?
What tests did you have to do?
