@Allenb Hello Allenb, thank you for opening this discussion! It's true that stablising one's blood sugar levels can tricky, especially if you're newer to diabetes. Let me tag some other members who can perhaps share their thoughts and advice with you!
Hello everyone, how are you doing this morning? Can you share some advice with Allenb? What blood sugar levels should he be looking to fall within? Do you have any tips for establishing one's levels?

Hi, Lisa from the UK here. I have a disability called Spina Bifida and this means I have continuous UTI's which prevent me from keeping my sugar levels low. It's more than frustrating. My level before breakfast today was 12. I cannot eat a lot of healthy food because my neurogenic bowel from my disability cannot tolerate them and simply makes me very ill. I cannot walk anymore as my spine has deteriorated so am using an electric wheelchair and can only transfer between seats now. I wonder if anyone might have any ideas about how to win this struggle. I'm taking insulin with every meal and one other once a day. Hope everyone is okay and hope to chat on here soon.

Hi Lisa. You certainly have some problems. Are you treated continuously with anti biotics for the UTI's? I hope so or you may have the infection travelling up to the kidneys. If you are having anti biotics then I would have thought you could bring your levels down by tweeking insulin injections. Why not try to discuss this all with a diabetic nurse who can refer you on to a specialist if she thinks it necessary. Your local GP surgery could well have one of their nurses who is diabetes trained. Best of luck and stay safe.

Hi Allenb. Just a thought. Are getting your meals on time each day? How long does it take you to walk your rounds? It is important to have some snacks (like Rich tea biscuits) in your pockets and to always have a sandwich (and water) in the other pocket so that the carbs help to lower your levels and the biscuits will top that up until you can have a proper meal at home or in a café somewhere. Stay safe.

Struggling with my levels, they range from 5.5 up to 15. When they are in the highs, I feel light headed but trying to establish my levels has been difficult over the last 12 months. Looking for some advice, I am 6ft 2 and 14 and half stone and my job is that of a postman so I walk over 10 miles a day.
Thank you
