I found that my sex drive was completely zapped after taking my antidepressants (sertraline). Thankfully, it was only for the first couple of months and I feel back to my self now.

Thank you all for sharing. It can be so difficult to deal with certain side effects of medication.
Don't forget that on Carenity you can search for medications and evaluating them as well as seeing what other members have said about it. By clicking HERE, you can access our medicatons unit and see if other members have experienced the same symptoms as you.

I don't think sex drive should be given such prominence when it comes to mental health. Giving the libido a rest can help with easing anxiety too. Depression and anxiety also drives people to abuse themselves sexually, diminishing self-esteem. There are strong links between the fight or flight mechanisms and sexual behaviour. Dependence upon sexual stimulation increases emotional vulnerability. What is important is mutual heartfelt consideration and compassion. Removing the physical element of that has helped reduce my anxiety.

@Comber I couldn't agree more. My sex drive has long hit the road but you can't beat a lovely cuddle on the couch with a loved one. Between my Ms and the general depression that accompanies a chronic illness, I don't have the head space for more physical declarations of love. However, we do enjoy couples massages, nice dinners and general closeness.

My sex drive isn't the same however I find sex actually helps my depression, the close intimate contact and release of chemicals help me.

Hello,
Many people report that their sex drive plummets when they are feeling depressed or because of the medication they are taking. Has depression had an impact on your intimate life? How did you combat this?
