Hello EmmyJane, thank you for opening this discussion. I'm sorry about the UTIs, those can be so painful! Let me tag some other members who may be able to share some advice or tips with you.
Hello everyone, how are you today? Have any of you had frequent or chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs)? If so, how did you treat them? Do you know of any medications or remedies that can help?

I have had UTIs for years because I have kidney disease. I used to have them once a month. Most debilitating. I was eventually put on permanent, prophylactic antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin) about 10 years ago and now only get maybe one every six months. Much better…. But I freely grant that permanent antibiotics may not be for everyone!

Yes. An absolute pain! It is very rare that I have them these days - less sexual activity, I suppose 🙂. A number of things that I have tried in the past are
1. I understand that the vagina is self cleansing so that having a frequent ‘good scrub’ in that area, particularly with perfumed wash products is not recommended. They irritate and wash away helpful bacteria.
2. Having a wee after having sex.
3. Drinking lots of water - adding cranberry juice. Cranberry juice lifts bacteria off the urinary tract and flushes them away.
4. No tight underwear or trousers etc - Anything tight in that area is liable to chafe.
5. Try Cystapurin. I always found great, quick relief with this. Over the counter medication.
I hope that helps, it is a miserable condition, I used to hate it - made me feel quite poorly at times. Think I have it sorted now! Good luck.

Hi all, the past few months I've been having non-stop urinary tract infections. I'm not sure what's causing them as I take care of myself "down there", but I can't keep calling my GP for it, most of the time they're booked anyways. Can anyone recommend anything to help them or to keep them from coming back?
