Hi, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in January 2005...seems a lifetime ago now. I found Diabetes UK, and have been a volunteer with them for the last 8 years. Here in Wales, those newly diagnosed are referred to the eXpert diabetes course...I didn't get a referal until about 2 years ago, when I changed GPs. "Taking Control" is the Diabetes UK theme for 2016, and having the education goes some way toward that. The Diabetes UK website is really good, and even gives information on local support groups. This link gives information for the newly diagnosed, but is good for everyone www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Newly_diagnosed.

Hello everyone,
A new analysis states that only 1 in 5 people from the UK diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the last 4 years, have it under control. That is roughly 1 million people. Only 14% of patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are quickly offered education on how to manage it. You can read the full article here.
Have you received education on managing your condition? And what do you think about this development?
Have a nice day,
Marina
