Hello everyone,

Let’s open up about a topic that often goes unspoken: alcohol. 🍷🥃 While some people with chronic illnesses don’t drink at all, others have had to reevaluate their relationship with alcohol due to the effects it has on their symptoms, medications, or mental health.

For some, alcohol worsens pain, triggers flares, disturbs sleep, or interacts dangerously with medications. For others, it was once a way to cope with stress, loneliness, or sadness, but over time, the downsides outweighed the temporary relief.

Quitting (or cutting back) isn’t easy. Between cravings, social pressure, and emotional withdrawal, it’s a journey that takes time and support.

👉 Have you ever tried to quit or reduce your alcohol use?

👉 What were the hardest parts, and what helped you the most?

👉 Did you notice any improvements in your health, energy, or mood afterward?

Following a recent visit to my general practitioner, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. In response to this diagnosis, I made the conscious decision to abstain from alcohol. This transition has proven to be challenging, particularly in social settings. To support my health, I have increased my water intake and made significant changes to my diet. I was introduced to the Mediterranean diet, which I have since adopted. As a result of these lifestyle modifications, my blood pressure has returned to normal levels and I have  not missed alcohol.

I stopped drinking last July having being diagnosed with prostate cancer along with a ongoing spinel channel nerve damage condition. Made the decision to stop and coming up to 12 months July.

It has improved my life completely, don't have to worry about what medication I'm able to take or not and I no longer hide behind drink to ease my concerns
