Hi everyone, how are you doing today? 💙

After a heart attack, it's common to feel a lingering fear of recurrence. In fact, a recent study found that this fear can persist for months, deeply affecting a person’s mental health and sense of safety, even when lifestyle changes and treatments are in place.

Many heart attack survivors describe feeling emotionally vulnerable, constantly worried about another event. Talking about these fears and sharing ways to cope can help regain a sense of calm and confidence.

💬 Do you feel a persistent fear of having another heart attack?

🧘 How does it affect your day-to-day life, and what helps you manage the stress?

👥 Do you find support from loved ones or healthcare professionals in facing this fear?

My wife had three heart attacks and survived, we monitor using ECG, blood pressure monitor, SPO2 monitor etc. We also look for symptoms and with our experienced we step back from strain, call for professional help if necessary. Thankfully we have avoiding further incidents like heart attacks for the last 10 years, plenty of other diseases and health issues to keep us occupied. The hospital stated 20 odd years she had less than 5 years, we beat that prediction by taking postive monitoring and action over her many illnesses. As she moves into her 70s, old age takes hold but we are alive by taking the postive/active monitoring!

I've been lucky not to suffer but my husband was in hospital last year with atrial fibrillation. He's been waiting over 9 months for an appointment to see a cardiologist here in Northern Ireland. Again last week he was at A&E with lack of breath and chest pain to which they confirmed he had a minor stroke. Only now has he been referred for an MRI in the next few days and then being sent for stroke assessment. This worries me and makes me angry when the problem could have been sorted 9 months ago!
