Hi everyone!

I am a sociology student from Durham University conducting research for my dissertation project concerning women’s experiences with Endometriosis and the NHS.

I am interested in exploring the impact of healthcare professionals’ ideas surrounding Endometriosis and whether those with the condition have felt psychologised (‘It’s all in your head’, ‘It’s just anxiety’, ‘This is normal/ It’s part of being a woman’).

Attached below is a survey asking about the experiences/ difficulties that those with Endometriosis face. I would be very grateful if anyone would like to take part in this survey, and furthermore if they would like to be contacted for a further interview (optional).

The survey itself should take no more than 10 minutes, and is completely anonymous. I have full ethical acceptance from the university to conduct this study.

Thank you!

An exploration into the psychologisation of endometriosis patients in the NHS and experiences of care.

I am conducting this study to understand and explore the experiences of those with Endometriosis and their encounters with healthcare professionals within the NHS (Nurses, doctors, gynecologists, GP’s, other specialists). Endometriosis is one of the most prevalent diseases in the UK, yet there is an average wait time of 8 years for diagnosis (Endometriosis UK). A particular area of interest (but not limited to) in the study is the dismissal of symptoms and health-care professionals’ psychologisation (‘It’s all in your head’) of chronic pain conditions.
