Is that 9.7 or 97%, if it is 9.7 then it is not particularly high, I have had readings well over 20 and it is simple adjusted medicine through your diabetic GP or diabetic nurse to control blood sugar levels better!

Hi,I am type 2 and for the past 3 months I have been eating plant based diet,my blood sugar levels have gone from 10 to 6.9,I blend lots of different veg/fruits through out the day,I have cut all high starchy foods from my diet,I have introduced foods that I was told I could not eat,I make everything from scratch like currys,I enjoy veggie hot pots for the winter months ahead, and since being on my new diet I am no longer on metformin, there is great information out there, alot that doctors don`t tell you about,I feel so much better since my new way of eating,I do not not touch processed foods,I now eat so healthy, just working on my high cholesterol now so I have removed all dairy while I experement, maybe you need to change what you are eating,I like to call the food I eat Gods food,it`s natural...

There is a lot of literature on eating naturally and giving up all processed foods,  it seems to be the way to go.  Most of our foods today are highly processed and so we do not really know what we are eating.  its hard to get off the processed foods as our palate is so used to it but if you can you will find you eat less and taste more,  but you have to really want to do it as it is quite a challenge.  I always try to eat food that looks like it should,  ie apple not apple juice,  chicken breast not covered in crumb,  a baked potato not a chip! butter not margarine. But watch the portions!

Diet is one of the biggest jokes around for diabetes 2, the reason most  of us  are is here is due to poor diet. So many myths surround what food we should or should not eat over the years, its a minefiield. The myths around processed food and specialised diabetic/low sugar food also is so wrong and misleading. Take for instance a Rich Tea biscuits, you can opt for reduced sugar but more interesting point is cheap basic versions have even less sugar so are the better option.

So in real terms the the cheaper options are a better option for a diabetic in so many foods, so cheap is best. Try it and read the labels we are being totally rip off by expensive low sugar options. From jams, biscuits, cereals, drinks etc. 'back to basics etc. is very low on sugars and safe for diabetics. Sugar is an expensive ingredient so in cheap options they normally replace it. '5 a day' veg was a myth invented by a Mid Western wholesaler who used it as an advertising campaign and no scientific basis.

One of the greatest diets that have proven to work and great for diabetics is short starvation options, if you can stomach them. They are getting more and more popular and the benefits are quite dramatic for us diabetics, obviously any weight loss method will help. I have used such diets for years and always avoided the dreaded needles but it also to be said some types of injecting causes weight loss. Sticking needles in myself is not something I enjoy so use it as a line I don't want to cross but it comes to us all eventually.

So in conclusion then, 'short sharp shock' diets work for diabetics and cheap food options are ideal for us because they low sugar!
