Hello everyone, how are you doing today? 😊

With measles cases rising in the U.S., many are wondering if the UK could face a similar outbreak. Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications, especially in young children and vulnerable people.

πŸ”Ή What’s the situation in the UK?

  • The UK lost its β€œmeasles-free” status in 2019 due to declining vaccination rates.
  • In 2023, measles cases surged, with the UK Health Security Agency warning of further outbreaks.
  • In some areas, MMR vaccine uptake is below 90%, increasing the risk of outbreaks.

πŸ”Ή Why does this matter?

  • Measles was nearly eradicated thanks to the MMR vaccine, but lower vaccination rates are allowing it to return.
  • Symptoms include fever, cough, rash, and eye irritation, but complications can be severe, leading to pneumonia, brain inflammation, and even death.
  • The NHS is urging parents to check their children's vaccination status and get any missing doses.

πŸ‘‰ What do you think? Are you concerned about measles making a comeback in the UK?

πŸ‘‰ Why do you think vaccine uptake has declined?

πŸ‘‰ Have you or your children had both doses of the MMR vaccine?

I ruddy hope mot! 😱 I, and everyone I know & hang out with, have all had their MMR vax's 😬 It's just like the government removing the smallpox vaccine from their list of regular vax's in late 00's/early 2010s, only to have people get vaccinated with it is they go into a medical degree. There shouldn't be the option to NOT vaccinate your child, unless there's a reason the child isn't able to take it. Herd immunity doesn't happen by chance, it happens when people do what's right for themselves and others, rather than being selfish.

Totally caused by the last Labour government and its leader, blowing the whole issue out of proportion leading to many not having the MMR and the public losing confidence in vaccine!

20 years ago we lost our niece, due to Sepsis caused by Rhubella. I would hate to think that measles is on the rise, once again, due to lack of vaccine uptake!

I'm shattered to know what's happening with the measles episode and lack of children having the vaccine. We were vaccinated as children, and if I had children/grandchildren today, I would make a stern attempt to get them also vaccinated!

The whole system is up the pole.

Whilst I can't understand any parent, not taking up a vaccine, offered to them for their child, I wonder is there enough publicity out there for it? If children are going to fall ill, rather than be vaccinated, we should be shouting from the roof tops!
