Honestly, the amount of protein products in supermarkets lately is getting a bit ridiculous! 😂 Even chocolate puddings and crisps seem to have a high-protein version now.
I do think getting enough protein is important, particularly when you're trying to manage your weight and keep yourself feeling satisfied after meals. But I wouldn't automatically assume something is healthier just because it has "20g protein" written in massive letters on the packet.
I'd rather look at the whole nutritional label, including sugar, fibre and calories, before deciding whether it's worth buying. And quite often, ordinary foods like eggs, yoghurt, lentils or chicken can do the job without the extra price tag.
I think the trend has some value, but we've reached the point where clever packaging is doing a lot of the talking. Not everything needs to be protein-enriched to be good for us! 💙

I had to laugh when I saw protein puddings in the supermarket the other day. We've managed perfectly well with ordinary yoghurt, eggs, fish and beans for years, but suddenly everything needs extra protein and a higher price tag. I'm not saying protein isn't important, particularly for maintaining muscle as we get older, but I do wonder how many people actually need these specialised products. For anyone trying to manage their weight, the overall nutritional value and portion size still matter. Something can be high in protein and calories at the same time. I think food manufacturers have realised that putting the word 'protein' on the packaging makes people feel they're buying something healthier. I'd rather spend a few minutes reading the ingredients than pay extra for a fashionable label.

Hi everyone 👋
Walk through a supermarket at the moment and it is difficult to miss the word “protein.”
High-protein yoghurt, cereal, bread, puddings, drinks and snacks seem to be everywhere.
Protein is certainly important for maintaining muscle and supporting good health.
But the current high-protein food trend also raises an interesting question: are we choosing these products because we really need more protein, or because clever marketing makes them seem healthier?
Some high-protein foods can be convenient and useful. Others may simply cost more because “high protein” appears on the packaging.
