Ap>I wonder if anyone really eats this much fruit and veggies per day. I've been having trouble with my bowel movements and have been trying to add more fibre to my diet, but these recommendations seem a bit unrealistic. Some days I only eat one fruit a day or just some salad for dinner, and that's it for my "5 portions of fruit and vegetables". It's not something I really enjoy eating, and knowing it costs so much doesn't help. ANy advice?

Thanks a lot!

Take care,

Ah it’s not easy as I’m a fussy eater and not so sure the fruits u buy in supermarkets are good quality as sometimes if u buy a lot together I find some of them grow mild

I eat at least 5 a day but am limited as to what I can eat. For example I can't eat anything from the cabbage family or citrus fruits as they aggravate a large hiatus hernia I have. Unfortunately because of the serious nature of my asthma they are reluctant to operate so have to manage it myself.

I try to eat 5 veg and fruit combined or more some days, I am diabetic so have to be careful with the fruits which I find difficult at times because I love them all.

I have short bowel syndrome and am not allowed too much fruit and veg, especially the high fibre sort. However I still believe it’s important to eat. Homemade soups and fruit smoothies are a good way of consuming fruits and veggies. However I could just live off raspberries and can’t wait for them to ripen in my garden. They never seem to manage to make the journey from the garden to the kitchen and just vanish out of my hands somehow 🤣

@Mrspotter my point of view, it's not about the quantity, it's about the quality. I take this recommendation as a sort of a goal which is nice to achive, but it's not the of the world if I don't. WHat I prefer is to buy good-quality products, and try to have a balanced diet. I try to eat fruit and vegetables every day, sometimes I don't succeed and It's ok for me.

thank you all for your insights. I guess I just have to accept that it's not the end of the world, as @dpoc02 says.

It’s all getting a little complicated as now it’s not 5 a day, the goal post has moved to 30 different fruits and vegetables for a week. Who’s going to afford all that?
