I feel like every time I open social media, someone's recommending a new miracle drink for gut health! It's quite difficult to know what's genuinely helpful and what's just clever marketing.
I think the simpler things often get overlooked. Drinking enough water, eating a variety of foods and getting fibre from everyday meals seem like sensible places to start. You don't necessarily need expensive supplements or a fridge full of probiotic drinks.
One thing I find interesting is how differently people respond to the same foods. Something that's supposed to be brilliant for digestion might actually leave another person feeling bloated or uncomfortable.
I'm all for looking after gut health, but I think we need to stop making people feel they're doing something wrong if they aren't following the latest trend. Sometimes the most useful habits are the boring, affordable ones you can actually stick to!

I reckon gut health is one of those subjects that's been made far more complicated than it needs to be. You walk into a supermarket and there are shelves full of drinks and supplements promising all sorts of benefits, usually at quite a price.
There's certainly something to be said for looking after your digestion, but I'd put more faith in a balanced diet, enough fibre and drinking plenty of water than in the latest expensive product.
I'm not saying probiotics are useless, but I do think the marketing has got ahead of the evidence in some cases. I'd rather spend my money on decent everyday food than a bottle promising to transform my gut health overnight.

Hi everyone 👋
Gut health seems to be everywhere at the moment.
Probiotic drinks, fibre-rich foods, fermented foods, supplements, “gut-friendly” recipes there’s a lot of advice online about how to improve digestion and support the gut microbiome.
For some people, these changes may genuinely help. For others, it can be difficult to know what is useful and what is simply another wellness trend.
Maybe you’ve tried eating more fibre, adding yoghurt or fermented foods, drinking more water, changing meal times, or cutting back on certain foods. Perhaps you noticed a real difference or perhaps nothing changed at all.
💬 We’d love to hear what has worked for you:

With so much health advice online, personal experience can sometimes help put things into perspective.
Do you think gut health deserves all the attention it is getting right now, or has it become another wellness buzzword?
With care,
