Hi everyone,

If you’ve found yourself going from pharmacy to pharmacy just to fill a single prescription, you’re not alone. According to a recent UK survey, 87% of pharmacy staff now face daily medicine supply issues, and many patients are feeling the impact firsthand.

🩺 Shortages now affect key medications like:

  • Estradot (HRT)
  • Quetiapine (bipolar disorder, schizophrenia)
  • Methylphenidate (ADHD)
  • Creon (pancreatic enzyme therapy)
  • Ramipril (heart conditions)
  • Common antibiotics like cefalexin

Many pharmacists say they’re stuck at “breaking point,” and some patients have had to skip doses, delay treatment, or travel long distances to access their meds. Some even reported aggression from frustrated patients, showing just how strained the system has become.

💬 Let’s talk about it:

  • Have you had trouble getting your regular medication due to shortages?
  • What did you do when your pharmacy didn’t have what you needed?
  • Do you think pharmacists should be allowed more flexibility to provide alternatives?

I so worry for us all who are relying on meds from day to day. How is that going to help us if we can't get what we need. Is this going to create even more stress for NHS as patients are going to suffer with drawal from meds as they can't get them.

I struggle to get my epilepsy medication now as it is coming from Belgium and Portugal. Due to Brexit this is a massive problem and I book well in advance when possible. Most of my other medications seem to be coming in at the moment.

My daughter has Cystic Fibrosis and has struggled to get her pancreatic enzymes for over a year now. On most occasions, we cannot get it locally and have had to either travel long distances or beg the hospital for it to be sent, and even then she only gets a fraction of what she needs. Some months we can't get it at all, which means that she has to stick to a handful of foods which either need very little or none of the enzymes, which is very limiting in the short term and no good for her health, causing rapid weight loss. If she has to do without for any length of time, then she will starve to death - literally, as she cannot digest food at all without the enzymes.
