Hi everyone 🌙

How’s your sleep been lately?

Many of us turn to sleep medication at some point to help manage insomnia, whether it’s over-the-counter options, prescription meds, or something more natural. For some, it’s a lifesaver. For others, it causes more problems than it solves.

💭 Let’s talk about it:

  • Have you ever tried sleep medications?
  • What worked for you, and what didn’t?
  • Did you experience any side effects or feel dependent on them?

Currently taking Mirtazapine 45mg, up from 30mg and 2 Amitriptyline 10mg at night sleep like a log, stopped taking them all on 1st January 2026, now if I get 3 hours sleep, I'm lucky, give it a week and still no sleep, going back on them.

Have you ever tried sleep medications? Yes indeed I was on Zopiclone for over 20 years.

What worked for you, and what didn’t? When I first had it I was placed on 7.5 mg, over time I found this to make me drowsy the next day so using a tablet cutter halved it . I've recently (14th December), totally weaned myself off them.

Did you experience any side effects or feel dependent on them? I found the side effects taking them being drowsy and not completely lucid the day after and maybe the next day to be unworkable. Tapering them down gradually was easy to do but side effects from this were difficult but manageable.
