Hello everyone!

How are you all doing today? 😊

For many of us living with chronic illnesses, managing work and health can feel overwhelming. One big question is whether to share our condition with our employer. On one hand, disclosing it might lead to helpful accommodations—like flexible hours, remote work, or adapted tasks. On the other hand, keeping your illness private might help avoid uncomfortable questions or, worse, discrimination. It’s a tough decision that often depends on your workplace environment, your role, and how much your illness affects your daily life.

Have you ever told your employer about your chronic illness? How did they respond? If you haven't, what are your reasons for keeping it private?

We’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences! 💬

Take care,

Somya from the Carenity team 🌼

I know that you should be honest about these things but the amount of times over the years that I have told an employer on the interview that I had epilepsy and I never heard anything back about the job but as soon as I keep my mouth shut about having an illness I get a job ? It's not right but that's what is happening

Hi @nikki77,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's so frustrating to hear that you’ve faced this and have to hide your condition. It’s definitely not right, but discrimination still happens. Just know you’re not alone in feeling this way. A lot of people in this community have likely faced similar situations, and it’s so important that we keep talking about it and supporting each other. Have you ever considered discussing this with a legal or advocacy group? Sending you strength and support 💙

Take care,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼

Morning all,

I have told my employer that I have Asthma, so I'm allowed six time to be off sick before they call me into a meeting.

I'm also allowed extra time off for Dr appointments.

Regards

Sharon
