Hi everyone!

How are you doing today?

Have you ever felt nervous at the doctor’s office and noticed your blood pressure reading was unusually high? This phenomenon is called white coat hypertension (or white coat syndrome), where a person's blood pressure spikes in medical settings, often due to anxiety or stress from being around doctors or healthcare environments.

Has anyone here experienced white coat hypertension? How do you manage stress during doctor's visits?

Hello @redders01,

Thank you for sharing this. Medications like these can take time to adjust in the body, but it must be stressful to still see such high numbers. Have you had a chance to discuss these readings with your doctor recently?

Take care, and keep us posted on how things go,

I'm always hypertensive at the doctor. If he takes my blood pressure it's always high. If the nurse takes my blood pressure it's always normal. I take Atenolol for high blood pressure.

@Somya.P Thank you for response. I'm a very hypertensive person and find that claustrophobia rises my blood pressure also. I hate crowds and queues and get flustered easily when in this situation.

Hello @lesmal,
Thanks for adding that. Crowds and queues can indeed be very stressful, especially when they make you feel trapped and claustrophobic. I can imagine though that sometimes these situations cannot be avoided. Do you have any advice for staying calm in those moments?

Take care,

Hello @redders01, I'm so sorry to hear, it sounds incredibly frustrating and exhausting, especially when you’re doing everything you can on your end to keep your BP in check. Have you thought about seeking a second opinion? Or maybe asking about alternative therapies to go along with your current treatment? It could be worth a shot. We’re here for you, and I hope things start to improve soon.

Please keep us updated and take care,

@Somya.P Staying calm is so vital as my hypertension brings on my seizures. When in a queue I try and control my breathing so it's nice and slow. This definitely helps to alleviate the stress.

Hello @Tigger.co.uk,

Thank you for sharing! Managing hypertension alongside anxiety and panic attacks can be extremely difficult. Have you tried any other sleep aids or calming techniques that help? We’re here if you need support with these challenges.
