Hello everyone,

How are you today? Now that summer is here, I thought I'd open a discussion for us to talk about asthma in this sunny season! emoticon sun

Do you find that your asthma is worse in the summer months? Does the summer heat, allergens, air polution or humidity aggravate your asthma? What do you do to cope? Do you have any tips for preventing asthma attacks in the summer? Feel free to share here!

@Courtney_J I do have trouble in the summer months, I find the hot summer air very oppressive, most especially when there's humidity in the air. And I think the hot air makes the pollution worse, so that doesn't help. I try to keep an eye on the pollen forecasts in summer so I know if I should try to stay inside, and I always make sure to have my reliever inhaler with me in case. I don't know what we're going to do this summer, the combination of masks + summer heat will be impossible for me.

I struggle massively in the summer most of asthma attacks happen in summer, unless it’s chest infection/pneumonia related. I’m now on strong prescription only antihistamines which help somewhat, but as I’m also atopic new allergies present themselves continually. I’m fairly certain my asthma is allergic.

I've been really struggling with my asthma over this last month. It might be down to the humidity, but I couldnt control my coughing or breathing and for the first time ever my throat felt quite constricted. Doctor advised double up on my inhalers but after 2 weeks it's just got worse. I'm now on a course of steroids and starting to feel a little better. Do these air purifying machines work? I've ordered one to see if it helps as I'm just not able to sleep from coughing and the fact that the steroids give me insomnia.

I have so many triggers that it is difficult but this year I have found very hard. The weather being so changeable doesn't help add into that high humidity levels and pollen counts, it is not good. I take as many precautions as I can, have a reliever inhaler in every room, my handbag and my emergency medical bag. I had got my nebuliser down to 6 nebules of 2 different types but have had to up it to 8 recently. Listen to your body, take precautions and be careful.

I've been really struggling recently with the heat wave and the humidity and then with the mask on top of it. I try my best to wear it in solidarity. How do you all cope in this heat?
