Can anyone answer this question please. How can singer Rod Stewart say he is cured after so little treatment? I was diagnosed almost 5 years ago, had my treatment and psa level is still undetectable. But I have not been told I'm cured. I am on 6 monthly surveillance with my consultant.

Hi everyone, how are you today? For those of you who are out of treatment, have you been told when you cancer is considered "cured"? What a about "in remission"? Are you having regular follow-ups with your medical team?

I have been told that my rare sarcoma was caught at stage 1b and that when they operated it was enclosed within my womb. I have got to have follow up check ups for 5 years. I was feeling really positive but today have felt lousy and felt more down I have spent most of the day in bed.

Hiya, I got diagnosed in May with carcinoid tumour on lung, surgeon operated on me to remove tumour but once inside realised that it had spread onto my lungs, he had to remove 2 lobes on my right lung, there's 12 week recovery I'm almost at end, i have had good days and bad days.

Am expecting a full discharge from the hospital in the next few months as a cured cancer patient. But it is the terrible side effects of the treatment that dog my life everyday that apparently I have to live with. Poor support from the NHS after the first year of treatment is appalling and long term help does not exist. But I am alive to suffer each day so I suppose I am one better than many of my family who died of cancer.

The worst issue is the NHS know what they have done to cure you but have no real plan to relieve the damage done by the treatment!

I've been told that drugs have had a "curative" effect and at present I'm cancer free but I'm also at very high risk of a recurrence. I'm not "cured" the best I can hope for is to stay cancer free and hope that all the drugs and radiotherapy don't cause problems of their own in the future.

I don't think cancer is curable, treatable certainly but the risk is always there.

I have been clear of breast cancer for 3 yrs I am still seeing a oncologist, having mammograms every yr and I am still on anastrazole have a few more yrs to go before I get the absolute all clear ,but I am still nervous of it comming back but since my cancer I have lymphoedema and emphysema on top of all my other life threatening illnesses, I also suffer with hot flushes and I have osteoporosis, recently I have had a really traumatic fall I fell on the same side of my lymphoedema and my cancer side that really scared me as I fractured my humorous which meant I couldnf wear my lymphoedema sleeve or glove now I have pains in both of my arms I find it very hard to sleep as the pain is very uncomfortable i cant lay properly i am having physio and i am still seeing my orthopaedic specialist, since my fall i am very unsteady on my feet i keep going dizzy and that really worries me ,i have seen my audiologist and i have no infections in my ears ,but i am having to have another hearing test as my hearing has got worse and she said i might need new hearing aids ,my last audiologist said he was going to send me for an interview to see if i could get a cochlear fitted but i said know as i am 67 and i have been through enough with having lost my left breast through a mastectomy i dont think i could go through this , Tigger

I would just like to thank everyone who responded to my initial discussion. I hope everyone is OK and will update my friends on Carenity in the coming months, feeling very well at present but would just love to get away to France as soon as possible. Have cancelled several trips in the last two years. Stay safe everyone.

When i say you are cancer free it doesnt mean you are completely cured I know that my cancer could come back im just thankful to be cancer free at the moment but I know deep down in my heart that it could still come back and that still frightens me because seeing my friends end up with secondary and see them pass away it still scares me I pray every night that it doesn't come back like you Mike salmons it is hard to cope with I dont feel like a women anymore I still cant look in the mirror properly as feeling like this doesny help my PTSD low moods depression and anxiety s so hard to cope with losing a part of being a woman but I thank God for being alive Tigger
