Hello everyone, I was hoping to start a constructive exchange on the 'aftermath' of cancer. I was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and I went through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

My question is simple but I would like to know if my feelings are shared. I try to see life as a gift, every day I try to enjoy every moment, live my dreams to the fullest and try to be happy but sometimes I feel very alone because most of the people I meet complain about their lives while they are healthy or do not take care of them. Does our experience of cancer change the way we look at life? Do you sometimes feel the guilt of still being here when other people have left us? I don't know if I am expressing myself well on what I feel but I'm interested in dialogue and listening.

Good day to all

I too was diagnosed last year had lobectomy and all was fine now have mets to neck other lung and growth on the original site .I am grateful for every day but like you find it harder to relate to people when they complain about their lives .I think it changes our priorities I certainly have less time for moaners now and also wary of telling people that I have cancer they just come out with comparisons to their lives or the usual platitudes

Life goes on and the real problem is the after effects of treatment which causes misery everyday. 5 years after treatment and still under oncology looking to relieve some of the after effects like Botox in my neck due to muscule spasms etc., Lymphatic system damaged and dental issues remain. But alive to experience the delights of effects of the treatment. As always they learn such heavy duty radiation is not needed today reducing the appalling side effects plus new medicines and treatment. So the future as always more positive in treatment concerns but that is once the Covid panic is over. As many thousands of cancer patients, more than the Covid deaths will die as the NHS took the eye off the ball.

I have to say one part of my attitude to life is the acceptence of death and I don't worry about it. I have had a reasonable life with no real complaints so quite accept if I die in the near future it is no big deal!
