Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’ve been struggling with what my doctors suspect is gastritis, though I haven’t yet had an endoscopy to confirm it. My health anxiety is through the roof, and I’m really looking for some reassurance that my symptoms are normal.

I’ve tried omeprazole without much luck and have recently started famotidine, but I’m still having flare-ups. I was wondering if anyone here could share their experiences? What symptoms do you deal with, and how do you manage them? Is it normal to have good days and bad days with gastritis?

Health anxiety makes this all so much harder, and it’s been affecting my mood a lot. I’d love to hear from others who are dealing with the same thing – any advice or words of encouragement would really help me feel less alone.

Thanks so much in advance!

Hi there, @Kimbad1990,

I’m so sorry to hear you’ve been struggling with possible gastritis and the added stress of health anxiety. The combination can really take a toll on your mental and physical wellness. It’s normal to have good and bad days with conditions like gastritis, and many people experience flare-ups despite being on medications like omeprazole or famotidine.

It seems our members might have missed this discussion, so I wanted to bring it back up:

Have others here dealt with similar ups and downs with gastritis? What symptoms do you experience, and how do you manage them, especially on difficult days? And for those managing health anxiety, how do you keep it from worsening your symptoms?

I’d love to hear more from the community about this!

@Somya.P I am taking Lansoprozole and I still occasionally get heartburn in the evening. Luckily, I have a big bottle of Gaviscon in the bathroom cabinet and although it tastes awful, it always does the trick!

@Hippychick67 Hi there!

Thanks for sharing. 😊 Have you noticed if certain foods or activities trigger your heartburn more?

@Somya.P I got it two nights on the trot after eating different foods so not sure. It may be that I didn't eat as much as usual and that triggered it.

@Hippychick67 Hi!

It can definitely be tricky trying to pinpoint what triggers these kinds of reaction. Not eating as much as usual could be a factor but sometimes changes in routine or portion size can also cause issues out of the blue. Have you noticed if there are any other patterns, like timing of meals or certain food combinations, that might be related to it? It might be worth tracking to see if anything stands out.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing pain and more. I have had heartburn and acid reflux for years. I take lansoprazole daily and Gaviscon when the heartburn gets too much. I have had 2 endoscopies and have a hiatus hernia and inflamed oesophagus from the last test. I have epilepsy and a medication called Phenytoin has been one of the causes. I also find that pastries, or pies, croissants, rolls, bread, and potato crisps all affect it and make it worse.
