So, do you follow a certain diet for NASH? Is there anything you miss eating since being diagnosed?

No, my eating is out of control and although I love healthy fruit, veg, fish, nuts and meat, my portion size is too big, I graze at work and eat past feeling sick and after a healthy meal I eat rubbish!

I’ve tried hypnotherapy and my recent fibroscan revealed the fat content was maximum 400. I’ve just lost a very dear friend to liver cancer (he was a healthy therapist) my scan results and his loss should have been enough fear to stop my binge-eating but it continues - it’s an addiction but I don’t know how to stop it.

@BevSpence I am exactly the same, I finish a meal and then start looking for something else, then feel sick as I've overeaten. Constantly thinking about food, I eat lots of fruit and veg also but crave crisps and sweets. Now feel like an elephant, getting breathless, and hating myself. Got to change these habits x

You’re right Nikinoo, it has to stop: but it is an addiction, and unlike AA for alcohol addiction and NA for drug addiction there is no recognition, or group meetings for eating addiction. I have seen first hand the irreversible damage: cancer, heart attacks, strokes, and diabetes -along with the amputations, sight loss and other side effects but the eating continues because true to any addiction, the fear, self loathing and stress of the situation drives us to eat. Every time another person says, just stop! Stop overeating, stop eating rubbish, stop before you’re full, do this, do that, they cannot see just like an alcoholic needs a drink and cannot just stop or a drug addict needs their next fix and cannot just stop- we too cannot just stop and the pressure of being reminded of such is our next drink, our next fix is food. Because food is an addiction and it’s been proven that for years the food industry have used additives to create addiction but for us there is no EA - no recognised 12 steps to recovery and definitely no sponsors! 🤢

I find it hard to explain this to people, it's like they don't understand. So just suffer in silence but can't stop. I know it's taking its toll on my health. In constant pain with arthritis and fibromyalgia. Mood swings, anxiety, depression. Feeling breathless and struggling to do basic everyday tasks for myself. A also have underactive thyroid and going through the menopause, but just feel like there is no sympathy or help and advice from the doctor's. Sometimes feel so alone x

I know exactly what you mean, I get told all the time to just stop - if only it were that simple.  Try not to be too disheartened Nikinoo, although the medical professionals don’t seem to recognise it’s an addiction, you’re not alone, so many people out there like us, we may not have the answers or a cure but we understand and we do the same. 💝

Hi,

Does anyone have information on using intermittent fasting to lose weight? How do you deal with the hunger pains during the fast period?

thanks,

Maury

Just wanted to update. I've been intermittent fasting for almost a month now. I do the 16/8 method which means I fast for 16 hours on a 24 hour period and can eat during an 8-hour "window" (for me that's 12 noon to 8pm). I feel better and I've already lost some weight. I can't say yet if it's helping reduce the damage to my liver.

Anyone else trying this? Let's start a club!

I have had to start eating better as I am now totally insulin dependent.  What's so annoying is that I have practically cut out all sugar, sweets, cakes, past, bread I have still put on nearly three stone since diagnosis 18 months ago.  However, having clinically died twice I am just glad to be here and celebrate every day.  X
