Does anyone know if a type 1 diabetic needs to put each individual item in relation to his diabetes (insulin, needles, hypo treatment etc) in a sealed plastic bag to get through security at an airport? These, as instructed, are being carried with him in his hand luggage.

I split his diabetes gear between two rucksacks and took it on the aeroplane as hand luggage. This contained a good supply of everything ie. twice the amount of test strips needed, including hypo treatment and two glucose metres, two keytone metres, two novo rapid insulin pens and two lantus insulin pens. We had a consultant's letter and a signed prescription from the doctor which was only needed once. We had no difficulties at all getting all his gear through security and onto the plane. So thankful.
