Hello everyone. I wanted to ask for people's opinions on what I could eat/drink which is healthy when having a hypo? I am trying to lose weight and with workout ect sometime I have a hypo and I don't want to undo what I just done with the workout with concentrated orange juice or anything unhealthy but I still want to treat the hypo as quickly as possible as you must know it's a horrible feeling. Thanks guys!

hi @Jackie22louise, i also drink orange juice first whenever i have a hypo, but it is also important to take some slow acting carbs like a banana or a yoghurt. But I'm not sure thta you can skip through fast acting carbs and take the slow ones directly.. have you talked to your doctor about that? honestly I don't think healthy fast acting carbs exist, unfortunately for us :)

I use fresh orange mainly. But have jelly babies in the house aswell as lucozade in my bag all the times. Then I have a piece of toast or a wee bowl of cereal :-)

Hiya    My specialist recommends 5 jelly babies during a hypo,but I find this is a slow recovery i.e. Around 20 mins,a long time feeling like  crap.  The only problem using Luco.is that it shoots you're level too high for too long.  Hope this helps.

Hi, I use glucotabs, or glucojuice. When at work I have fruit pastilles in my pocket at all times and only have 4 or 5 as I find them quick for getting sugar levels back up.

I use Glucose Powder - my chemist orders it in now in 500 gm boxes and I keep it on me at all times - the brilliant thing about it is that you can take it in cold drinks, hot drinks or even sprinkled on a bit of cereal if you wish to combine Quick with Long acting!  My uncle a diabetic consultant recommended it to me over 40 years ago.. and it travels brilliantly say dry in a plastic container.  As it is pure glucose the return to normal is very quick and you can, with experience work out how much you need of it to bring you up a certain amount of blood sugar marks, so to speak.  Worse comes to worst you can even pop some on your tongue and let is dissolve!

@Jackie22louise hi Jackie

i usually just have a couple of jelly babies tbh they work real fast and in truth 2 or 3 to give you the boost should not affect dieting too much.
