Hello everyone,

How are you doing today?

In the UK, the NHS provides free medical care to the whole population and receives funding via National Insurance contributions. By contrast, private care is provided by private companies financed by their investors and the payments received from their patients.

Do you have any experience using private healthcare? What made you go private? Was it worthwhile? What are your thoughts? Did you find it better or worse than your typical NHS services?

My husband and I are both on NHS which has given great care so far. I cannot complain. He has skin and prostate cancer and I have epilepsy, osteoporosis, hypothyroidism and other health conditions. We looked into private health care, but decided it's not worth it as they only cover new health conditions, not current ones you have.

We also spoke to our doctor and he said the same. My husband is being well looked after by the NHS with regular appointments and I've been lucky to have a regular 6 month neurology appointment. Unfortunately I've now asked for a 2nd opinion as I don't agree with my neurologist's treatment plan after 6 years of no control for my epilepsy.
