Medication indications

Azithromycin 200mg/5ml Powder for Oral Suspension

Azithromycin powder for oral suspension is indicated for the treatment of the following infections, when caused by microorganisms sensitive to azithromycin (see section 4.4 and 5.1):

- acute bacterial sinusitis (adequately diagnosed)

- acute bacterial otitis media (adequately diagnosed)

- pharyngitis, tonsillitis

- acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (adequately diagnosed)

- mild to moderately severe community acquired pneumonia

- skin and soft tissue infections

- uncomplicated Chlamydia trachomatis urethritis and cervicitis

Considerations should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents.

Azithromycin 250 mg Capsules

Treatment of the following bacterial infections induced by micro-organisms susceptible to azithromycin (see sections 4.4 and 5.1):

- infections of the lower respiratory tract: acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (adequately diagnosed) and mild to moderate community-acquired pneumonia

- infections of the upper respiratory tract: sinusitis and pharyngitis/tonsillitis (see 4.4 regarding streptococcal infections)

- acute otitis media

- infections of the skin and soft tissues of mild to moderate severity e.g. folliculitis, cellulites, erysipelas

- uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis

Consideration should be given to official guidance on the appropriate use of antibacterial agents.

I was told take for life but my go say they u usually take you off them on the summer?

The only side effect with this is you know when you've not taken it

I take this tablet three times per week Monday, Wednesday and Friday

It was prescribed by one of the consultants at the respiratory clinic, I understand the GP cannot do the initial prescribing
