Hi
I have had 2 operations to remove tumers from my pituraty gland 2012 and again in 2013
but my growth hormone was still in danger zone
i started somatostatind 10mg injection every 28 days (very painful injection)
the biggest problem I found is stomach pains and swelling some times wake up through the night with the pain
but the drug works my growth hormone is in the normal range again

I had a hip replacement 16 months ago due to osteoarthritis. I can honestly say it was the best decision I have ever made. Yes I was not looking forward to everything post op, but I am now 100% mobile and after not being able to walk any distances I now enjoy walking again and I've managed to lose 2.5 stones. Totally pain free and I've had lots of comments about how much happier I look - my face was obviously showing my pain. If you have any questions please ask!

Surgery is not the only treatment of acromegaly. You can also be prescribed some medications before surgery, to shrink a particularly large tumour, or if surgery doesn't entirely alleviate the symptoms. There are 3 medications used to treat acromegaly:
- somatostatin analogs (SSAs)
- growth hormone receptor antagonists (GHRAs)
- dopamine antagonists
Have you been on one of these medications? Have you experienced any side effects? If yes, what were they?
