Yes, I have a cat that comes and goes as she pleases! She helps me a lot to feel better and more positive about life.

I have a great Jack Russell Terrier by the name of Rhodie... He always knows when I've had a seizure and not feeling well. He stays by my side whether I'm walking around or resting/sleeping.
I love him to bits and relocated to Northern Ireland with him!

Hi All I am on here to get any support I can for my sister who has RA.
Yes I have health problems of my own and I have had dogs for a long time. I would be a mess without my dog, she is wonderful.

Yes, I have 5 cats, and they are just so calming, but I also want a couple of rescue dogs. Now my sons are all men, they don't need looking after, and my cats do, and that takes my mind off things

Well as a dog lover I feel out of place in the cat world. But my dog sits next to me all day and instrumental in getting me motivated to walk her everyday. Although not exactly a lap dog as a Basset Hound her loyalty greatly treasured.

When I was divisional secretary of a Forces charity named SSAFA we were taught to encourage older clients to have an animal. In my division we helped various people to obtain a pet and from my experience it really did work. Those that had dogs went out walking their new friends, met like minded people, and their pets and it helped to take away the loneliness of being alone. I certainly think it is a good therapy for people that are ill or alone .

We have a Labradoodle, Mia nearly 11 years old, we had her from 4 months old. There's no doubt that without her walking for the sake of walking just wouldn't happen. Mia provides comfort and companionship to the whole family. I'd say our lives have been enriched by having her.

I have 3 cats, 2 of whom are sick, and 1 of whom is blind. I find that my cats, one in particular, know when I am feeling unwell and make an effort to support me in the same way as I do him, his mum and his brother. I would be lost without them; for them to sit on my lap and let me stroke them is very relaxing and helps my pains. The rewards seem to work both ways. I am very lucky.

Ive had dogs and budgerigars all my life but when the last died i said no more too upsetting. And at 75 i would hate to think who would look after them when im gone. As one daughter has a cat and the other wont have pets also as im bad on my legs now i would be frightened of tripping over them

I am a "Doggie " person, but I sadly lost my 16 -year old rescue dog in march this year. He got me out for walks, he would wander , nose to the ground, whilst I would shuffle behind. My COPD (Asthma and Bronchiectasis and other disease's) have worsened and family convinced me it was time to give up rescuing dogs. I have since become the 2nd home for 3 local cats. They love me(because of the A la carte menue fed to them twice a day)! My neighbour is not impressed that they prefer my home ("I pay the Vet's bills") Of course she is right however, as hard as I try to deter them from visiting me, they are determined to run indoors and wait in the kitchen. Dear Diedre, what can I do? !!
