I think in Medway(Kent) the mental health has a lot of catching up to do. I suffer with depression, and when i'm in a bad place i can't even get hold of the crisis team, i am pleased for the Samaritans they have saved me a few times

Johnjames...Think the crises teams nationally are not fit for purpose...I guess it's a result of underfunding all they seem to be able to offer is scripted advice such as 'go for a walk' have a 'cup of tea' and in one instance ' turn your mattress over...they are now ineffective to the point that they should be discarded and a rather more effective means of support put in place....what's the point of continuing to publicly fund a dead duck ?

Think this is one of the major reasons people are now seeking help directly from A&E departments...or probably a much better option would be to contact your GP out of hours or otherwise if things become unmanageable.. If there is a group available to you it's really helpful to go along to it...there is such a group here in Poole but once discharged from CMHT it ceases to be available unless as in my case you point out how ridiculous it is to have the carpet taken out from under your feet and how it would be totally appropriate to lodge a formal complaint.

We don't even have crisis teams here. Last (and only) time I tried A&E I waited 9 hours of being completely ignored (apart from the triage nurse) before giving up and going home. Now I just stay home and suffer through it.

Callan 333 looking at your drug list I really feel for you, the particular concern to me iS Tramadol now this is a controlled drug and addictive my partner took it for a very short while between consultation and operation  about a week for severe pain she had a 14lb cist on her ovary, within 10 minutes of taking it she was asleep.

I feel in my heart that you need your drug list reviewing also I feel you need some one to regularly come and see you to chat if you are a carer you need just someone to tell the council when you need extra help and support for a start you need someone to take over your caring duties one day a week so you can get out have a break, get some fresh air and able to mingle in town.

I wish you the very best wishes you say there are people worse off than you I know lots of people having a hard life I don't know anyone who is worse off that you and you seem to go through a hard life daily without support.

Grundy.

Strange...You shouldn't be wary of getting in contact with your GP if you are in difficulties seems the only way to actually achieve anything is by making an effort to give them no option but to be aware of your situation...I think it probably relates to their budgets if you are largely invisible you can be certain no efforts will be made on your behalf...you have to be vocal on your own behalf ...simply turning up at the surgery regularly and stating and re stating the case...but of course not everyone is able to be so and especially if they are unwell and if you have no one to represent you it's easy to,  as you say "stay home and suffer" it should be possible to find a means of representation as many charities are picking up some of the shortfall in NHS services...it may be worthwhile exploring via the web what's avalable in your area...councilling ,groups etc.

Thank you David1. As I said we don't have crisis teams here, I can't go to gp or clinic in the middle of the night, which is when I usually feel worse. I have seen people online tell others to go to a&e if unsafe, but I can't just go there every or most night. It feels at this stage that I've used up my share of resources and it's time to let others have a chance at help.

Sorry to hear that ...

Maybe a medication review and looking into what's available mainstream may help...I think it's crucial to have some form of support even if it's an hour a week...just a different environment..engaging with others...if I don't have that I really deteriorate and just live inside my own head..and that just becomes totally torturous pretty quickly

You're right, I need to see my gp. The problem is trying to get there, I won't even go into my situation, it's so ridiculous it's embarrassing. But your reply was really helpful, thank you. Perhaps I'll find a way soon. Like tomorrow. Thank you, and good luck to you too.
