Hello dear members,

I thought I would open this discussion as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a strong news topic of late and is a pertinent topic for us here, as those with chronic health conditions who are immunocompromised may be at a higher risk of infection.

As you know, Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which cause illnesses ranging from the common cold (some seasonal viruses are Coronaviruses) to more severe illnesses such as MERS or SARS. The virus identified in January 2020 in China is a new Coronavirus. The disease caused by this Coronavirus has been named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization.

If you feel you may be a risk or may have the virus, please refer to the government recommendations which are available and updated on the following page:

Coronavirus (COVID-19): UK government response

For more information about the virus and how to protect yourself, go to the NHS Coronavirus page:

NHS - Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Are you worried about the Coronavirus? Are you taking any particular precautions? Do you have any advice or opinions to share?

Feel free to share your questions, comments and concerns below.

Take care,

Michael

Hi everyone as you know I am fighting breast cancer and I am Also suffering from emphysema plus loads of other health problems ,this covid 19 is very worrying for me as ,I have had a letter from my gp saying I have to be in isolation for 12 weeks I cant go out if I need any air then I can only go on my balcony ,but I haven't been out yet ,if I need any shopping then my husband goes out for me ,when he goes out he wears a mask and stands away from others ,as he then comes home he washes his hands but when he is shopping he wipes the trolleys or baskets ,it is very scary and worry for me as I cough all the time for my emphysema, so I dont know if I've got it or not but I dont sneeze and I dont have a temperature, I have been told if my temperature goes up I have a hot line which I have to ring straight away ,I am feeling nervous which doesnt help with my mental health as I have PTSD low moods depression and anxiety  ,and that has got worse  the other night my chest and my throat  felt as though it was on fire but I didn't panic I was worried I took my spray under my tongue and rested and it got easier and the feeling went away so I managed eventually got to sleep ,to keep myself busy I have been knitting canula sleeves for baby units to different hospitals, when I have made a lot I shall split them and give them to the hospitals  also I have made fingerless gloves  for my kids so I am trying to do things that's about it for me all I can say is God bless you all and please stay safe lots of love thoughts and prayers are with you all love Tiger xxx

Hi. I have chronic heart disease. I am so fed up with this isolation. Cleaned the house every day, never been so clean, done gardening, watch TV. Now all I want to do is go back to work.

I live on my own so no one to talk to. All the home delivery spots are taken up.

What's left???

@volvo07 I am so fed up with this too. I agree, our place has never been cleaner either. Do you have any neighbours you can ask for help with the shopping?

@Tigger.co.uk‍ That's a great project you've got to keep you busy! My wife also loves knitting. Says it helps her clear her mind.

Stay safe everyone.

WHO TO BELIEVE ?   As I have ensured my total physical isolation from other human beings ,like many others my biggest fear was catching this virus from hard surfaces such as door handles, home deliveries etc.  A leading German virologist, Prof Hendrik Streeck  researching in one of Germany's worst hit areas, has stated. It is not a smear infection and that on inspection of  infected families homes, there was not a single case of infection present on ANY HARD SURFACE.     If this is the case then there is an awful lot of needless fear being spread about.   It seems that contradictory information is rife and is causing more harm than good.

@Cleopatra63 Hi Cleopatra, have you been taking your temperature? I think just a dry cough on its own is ok, but if you develop a fever I would definitely contact your GP. Have you tried the NHS 111 service online? The little system they've set up is rather helpful at helping you identify symptoms and what to do

Do register if you are a vulnerable person with the government, as well as food parcels, you get priority access to online shopping and help getting you medicines, stay. There may be also help through your local community with help with shopping etc. don't be afraid to ask and stay safe!
