How do you cope with the fear that the cancer will come back?

Well had prostate removal 4 years ago and exactly 4 years to the date it re-surfaced so have just had a four week cvourse of radiotherapy which I am now recovering from, clearly there is always a risk it will come back but as my consultant told me with frequent blood tests they can really catch it early so it becomes a case of close observation and treatment as soon as possible, so basically keeping it at bay for as long as posible.

Not to give u sympathy but to give u hope , ur amazing despite ur unhelpful events that seem to have u feeling like ur doing jail, but hold ya self cause there’s something within u that makes u a resilient person , a fighter I believe u to be , the lack of surport is the same lack of surport ur partner feels , I’m in a similar situation so I can understand, I’m scared for one of the first times in my life I’m shitting myself literally, , I’m a boxing coach and a very strong and motivated person , not anymore , this cancer has certainly brought me to my knees , and let me ask u if u find itself down broken confused what does a person do when on there knees , pray pray and pray again don’t stop reaching out high above , and i believe truly u will be content hopeful and most of all grateful , god bless u and all the best from Australia

I feel for all of you that haven't the support either medically or emotionally, I truly wish I could help.

I know that the Myeloma will eventually return albeit I am in remission now. As a nurse I made the decision not to research Myeloma or ask my consultant any questions other than the basics. I knew that for me the more knowledge I had the more worried and afraid I would be. I told Dr M just tell me what I need to know and what I need to do and that is how I have delt with it. I call it informed denial.

For day to day living I try to eat well live healthy and ignore my diagnosis. It works for me, but I think we all need to find our own strategies because no cancer is the same we don't all react the same way. We need to find our individual paths to follow but also walk alongside those with same anxieties and fears.

we all worry it might come back.  My way of dealing with this is, firstly, live every day to the full.  And, secondly, to bear in mind that anyone can die / be killed at any time.  The proverbial hit by a bus thing.  I in no way wish to trivialise this fear which I too feel.  I am still going through treatment myself but already think - what if it comes back.  It is incredibly tough.  An ugly disease.  So I guess all I am saying is make the most of your life you have left.  I am going to try and do that at the end  of my treatment.  Maybe it will not be that ease: I will let you know.  In the meantime, all the very best to you and everyone else struggling with negative and depressing thoughts.

My particular cancer doesn't go away, even when I need treatment, it will always come back eventually. So my haematologist told me to treat it as an autoimmune disease, rather than a cancer. That's worked so far for me.
