As I have hit the 40's I have been hit with the aftermath from bullying, getting flash backs from a moment, what someone did or said and also it is upsetting that someone of these people want to stay the same, how they would never apologise as people say they were only kids, whom hated you, ruined your confidence, wanted you to fail, made you feel small. We cannot be our child again, it's just a shame I never got encouraged, treated equal. Also when being a child, I was so shy and was embarrassed to tell on them, now as an adult I am thinking about someone who has upset me and asked them to help me understand, if I have over reacted or took something the wrong way I am glad to accept I was wrong, when it is people being unkind, it's best to not retaliate and walk away. I just would like to be able to stop bad flash backs, they can just come out of the blue, then boom, I'm upset, like this trauma's never end.

Hi @Diamonds,

Thank you for sharing this. It takes a lot of courage to put these feelings into words, and I want to acknowledge how real and painful these emotional scars can be. The echoes of childhood bullying don’t just fade with time, especially when they shape how we see ourselves.

You're absolutely right, people often dismiss bullying with, “They were just kids,” but that doesn’t erase the hurt. The past can resurface when we least expect it, and those flashbacks can feel like being pulled back into the moment all over again. It’s frustrating when the people who caused harm refuse to take accountability, but your reflection shows just how much wisdom and strength you’ve gained.

Have you found anything that helps ground you when these memories hit? Some people find comfort in mindfulness techniques, journaling, or even talking it through with a trusted friend or professional.

It’s possible other members may have missed this discussion. I'll tag them here to see what they have to say to weigh in:

Sending you warmth and support. 💙 You deserve kindness, from yourself and from others.
