Has anyone had weight gain with the medication they have been given for fibromyalgia or anti psychotic medication for mental health. I have put on 4st and started the cambridge 1:1 diet and not lost anything. I am on gabapentin 300mg x 3 daily which at present does not work. I am on 150mg x 2 daily of Quetiapine for split personality. I'm at my wits end and gp won't let me have a gastric band. I used to be a size 10 and now an 18. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year and mental health issues when i was 38 so 4 years ago.

@Mulligankaren Hello Mulligankaren, thank you for starting this discussion. I'm sorry you're going through that. Losing weight is hard enough as it is, but when you feel like your medication is causing the reverse to happen it can be frustrating. Let me tag some members who can share their experience with you.

Hello everyone, I hope you're doing well! Have you experienced weight gain with your fibromyalgia medications? If so, what have you done to fight it? Feel free to share your experiences here!

Hi, all the anti depressants and meds for Fibro made me put on weight. However, I finally found that Duloxetine or brand name Cymbalta helped with Fibro and I lost some weight.  Becareful though doctors tend to put fibromites in it too quickly. Start slow and only go up when you are ready to do so. I told my GPS this and they agreed. However, this is a brutal drug to come off, again you have to do extremely slow and low. So look up about the drug and be aware. Also have you tried CBD oils. I use SIMPLY CBD which gives extremely good prices and they have a Support Group on FACEBOOK which you can join to ask questions about which ones are best. They work on the principle that o start low and find your sweet spot. It has helped me a lot. Good luck x

@Mulligankaren I experienced some weight gain as well. It's frustrating. Have you tried anything new that's helped? I mostly just tried to walk at least a half hour a day for exercise as I can't do much more than that and work on balancing my diet and it's helped a bit.

I put on about 1/2 stone for every increase in my fibro meds (pregabalin). I finally dropped the morning dose from 200mg back to 150mg to help me lose weight. But I found I just yoyo'd up and down a bit on ordinary low calorie diets. Then I when on a low carbohydrate diet after I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

I was fairly strict low carb but never felt hungry as I was eating cheese, eggs, butter and even double cream. In addition to getting my blood sugars down, and my cholesterol down too, I lost over 5 st.

I've stayed low carb since then, although I allow myself a little more so I have a slice of toast sometimes now. I did the diet/new way of life with the Diabetes.co.uk lowcarbprogram but the are other sites with lots of advice and recipes.
