I am currently experiencing a real flare up, which my G.P. believes may be Erythrodemic Psoriasis.  Twice now we have tried different emollients, one prescribed by the surgery and now one prescribed by the Dermatology Consultant.  He also suggested stopping Statins for a month as he believed they may be the culprit.  I have been taking them since March and this started in July.  My G.P. could not give clinical approval to stopping them, so if I wanted to try, it had to be my decision.

I am suffering so much with this that I decided anything was worth a try and this is my fourth day Statin free.

Each time I have started a new emollient, or made changes like coming off Beta Blockers onto something else, it looked as if we might have it on the run after a couple of days.  The redness fading to pink, and the dryness and peeling under control, then lo and behold, day three or four and it is back, fully fledged bright red, itchy and painful!!!!!  Just to show it is boss, there are some new spots too!

I have three weeks to wait for the next Consultant’s appointment, not sure what to do now, should I go back to my poor, long suffering and extremely helpful G.P. or wait for the three week appointment?  I guess it depends on how much worse it gets.

Hey ho, upwards and onwards …………………………………………………….

Hi I've had psriasis since I was 17. Been on Tropics, Puva, kept it gone for 5 years. When it came back, Puva didnot work. Then had Cyclosporine, that cleared it up. Then it effected the Kidneys so had to come off. Put on methotraxate. Worked then effected the Liver. So halved both doses and combined the 2. Worked for a little while. Then Asatrating after 3 days I burnt up all over. Stopped. Then went on biologics. Embril worked for a while, then Hymeria that worked for 4 years, then added low dose of methotrexate. Effected my liver so had to stop. Then just over a year ago I started on a Trile one. So far so good. So as you can see I run out of options, and this is the last one at the mo. So yes it does come back. Good luck with your treatment. x

i have just read through all these comments and it is true that psoriasis does fight back usually after trying a treatment the body builds up a defense against it and the psoriasis comes back worse than ever and in more places than it was before this is because the immune system is fighting in over drive to combat the side effects of the creams and drugs taken as most of you point out the drugs affect other parts of the body like the kidneys and the liver it also affects the pituetary gland and the hypothalamus which is where all the hormones come from that control the bodies systems  . there is also another side effect from using all the drugs and creams and that is that the body builds up an immunity that stops them working and that develops into experiencing allergic reactions to the drugs and creams so in essence its a never ending battle to find what does and does not work and that is why we need more clinical studies into just what psoriasis is and how to treat it .
