Hello everyone,

Living with diabetes is lifechanging and can be a struggle. It's quite normal to experience a "burnout" at some point. Have you ever felt like giving up on controlling the diabetes?

Please feel free to share any thoughts or advice you have.

All the best.

I am taking a lot of medicine because I have high cholesterol and high blood pressure as well as the diabetes. I am trying to loose weight and improve my cholesterol, but I feel that nothing is happening and that my efforts are pointless. So yes, I often think that it would be easier to just drop it. But my will to live gets me every time :) I know that if I don't do anything I will be off even worse. It can sometimes be difficult to find motivation though.

Haven't experienced a burnout yet, but I struggle with depression and when I am in a bad period I feel it is pointless with all the meds and find it hard to keep going. But I manage to stick with it. I know it is for the best. Have great support at home, so it helps a lot.

I had a burnout some years ago and decided to get professional help. I needed to take charge of my health again but couldn't muster the strength myself. I talked to my doctor about it and she referred me to a therapist who helped me gain perspective and also helped me put together a management plan that wasn't too overwhelming for me. I needed help to deal with it and I hope others will also ask for the help! Why struggle alone if you can get help :)

Hello Bubbles,

Sounds dreadful what you are going through! I got terrible side effects from metformin and now on Galvus, which is better. Not great, but at least better. Hang in there, the alternative is much less pleasant if we don't take the meds :( I eat healthy but my numbers are still difficult to control. It is an awful feeling to not be able to do anything about this. If only my diet helped my health, then at least I would feel motivated to keep going!

With all thats been going on with my life depression type 2 diabetes physical pain joint problems being homeless in a shelter, I am finding it increasingly hard to find the will to carry on and the negative thoughts are coming back. Im getting scared that I am losing the grip. Im falling into the comfort eating and lack of motivation space. Add to this having problems keeping friendships n relationships with people, I feel alone even though there are people physically around me.

@technics29 don't lose it, I am sure you still have things to fight for and dreams to achieve. When I was starting to get use to this condition I lost it a lot of times and I even had a burnout, but then I decided that I needed to be in cntrol of my health and love myself. ANd it was magic, by loving myself I automotivate me to take care of my health, what I eat and if I do enough excersice.

I feel that part of having control over you disease is how much you really want to be ok, if you love yourself enough to don't let you die because of neglicence... at least that is how I see it.

I was told to love myself by the Doc at the pain management clinic where they told me i had fybromyalgia!  That is so hard to do, especially when they do not know your past and what you have been through,  it trots off peoples tounges so easily, as you can see i am quite bitter about that, and seeing people say it gets my back up.  I am not out to create an argument about it, and its good if you can love yourself......oh i will just shut up now as it brings back too many bad memories. Sorry.

Yes, i feel like giving up on it - everyday i feel like that.  All the pills and potions they give you that cause so many bad side effects.  I have taken a stand and told them - no, i dont want them.  I have been through hell coming off them, why bother anymore, these pills have made me pile on weight, and it does not matter what i do i cant lose it - vicious circle. Time for chocolate lol
