Hi everyone,

Foot care is one of those things that often get overlooked until something goes wrong. But for people living with type 2 diabetes, it’s a vital part of staying healthy. Small cuts or changes can turn into bigger problems if they’re not caught early.

Whether you do daily checks, use special creams, or have tips from your podiatrist, we’d love to hear how you take care of your feet.

  • What’s part of your daily foot care routine?
  • Have you ever had foot problems linked to your diabetes?
  • What helps you stay consistent and spot changes early?

13 months ago I got gangrene on my left small toe . Had it amputated almost immediately. Might have jumped the gun there but I'm not sitting around waiting to see how much worse it could get because then I'm probably only sitting for life..

E-45 to deal with the cracks that appear depending on season, I rarely get injuries. My brother a different case, regular injuries and blisters which cause infections requiring hospital stays or bucket loads of anti-biotics. He has had plenty of toes cut off and sharks teeth bone growth requiring special shoes off the NHS. Next is no doubt removal of limbs, once above the knee time is up. But like me reaching nearly 70 we got our three score years and ten, so quite happy!

@robjmckinney Wow, it sounds like you and your brother have had very different journeys, but it’s amazing how resilient you’ve both been! I can’t imagine how tough those hospital stays and surgeries must have been for him. It’s great to hear you’re both making it to your 70s , definitely something to celebrate! 🎉Do you have any tips for managing those seasonal cracks or preventing injuries?

@elizabethmary Always the E-45 to stop the cracked feet, well it looks like my wife pre-diabetes has now turned age onset diabetes, all adds to the fun. My wife has a long list of illnesses so just another pill no doubt, E-45 on her feet the norm for many years. Injuries another norm as falling common for us all, injured my toes recently and thought there may be an infection, but survived. But my brother always injuring his feet etc. and pumping in anti-biotics. He has no feeling below the knee so does not realise he has injuries. The real answer is regular inspections looking at possible injuries!
