Hello everyone,

Having type 2 diabetes has been put in connection with depression. Therefore experts suggest that patients receive treatment for depression if they have type 2 diabetes (read the article here).
Do you struggle with depression as a result of your diabetes? Or maybe the other way around?

Good day to you all,

Marina

Hello. My GP mentioned it, but I declined since I feel just fine. My wife and I are aware of the symptoms of depression and feel comfortable with the decision. For now at least. I try to stay active and get experiences that makes me feel "alive".

I have in the past had chronic anxiety attacks and depression and was being councelled for it untypical for me I joined a church group and have gained great confidence, and weaned myself off the medication, the church have put in a lot of time for me and attending their social events, although I have never been a drinker I am now alchohol free and have not smoked for 8 years, though I take a lot of tablets for diabetes and numatherapy.

My annual diabetic review has questions about depression.   I have always had lows from time to time and vary from low to steady but never euphoric.   Should I consider the lows to be caused by my diabetes or just normal for me.

I have bouts of serious depression that I had before my heart attack and subsequent diabetes and it has been all out war against all these conditions. I have now gone 16 years since my serious heart attack and had three bad depression sessions of about six months each in that time. I have also managed to get my blood sugar levels under control with a combination of diet and meds (Metformin) through going on a strict low carb diet that I have actually found easy. I am now 64 and in very good shape for my age and have a rescue staffie that keep me walking every day!

In my husband's case the depression came first  - he has suffered from it for 50 years, but was only diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 last year.
