Ok so basically this is what poster said (not my words but i agree with all this poster says in terms of how unhelpful these comments are ) So these are things people often say to people with depression who actually have no idea what they are actually saying and how unhelpful......

'you look fine whats wrong with you'

'get a job'

'smile'

'there are people far worse off then you'

'you dont need pills'

'your just bored'

'your mad'

'you dont look ill'

'stop feeling sorry for yourself'

'you have money so why are you depressed'

'you have a loving family so whats the problem'

'your just attension seeking'

'get a grip'

'stop being so selfish'

'stop being lazy'

Sure people have been called far worse i know i have been...

'get a job' is so suspect considering the freedom I fought for and many other friends died for? Yes Don't be Lazy we all have a role for peace and equality.

Depression is another unseen illness. I have suffered since I was 18 now 69.  Still on antidepressants.  But took control a few years ago, talked to my doctor told him I know my body and what I need. The gov9tried to get docs to reduce pensioners prescriptions to 20mg apparently we don't need high doses.  I my body doesn't make the happy hormone so I informed my doc I don't give a fight what the government say I know my body and I need my usual dose or I will be back to square one.  He AGREE thank goodness. I get SAD syndrome and use my sad lamp in winter which helps a lot. But if the sun is out I'm out in it all day.  That is my way of control which I have learnt over the years.   Gentle hugs to all of you.
