I am going through a bipolar depression and I don't take antidepressants because they didn't prove to be efficient in my last depressions. I wonder if bipolar depression is not just a cycle that we have to go through until it's over. Did you find any improvement when you started to take antidepressants during a depression, let's say after 3 weeks?

I don't have Bi Polar, but do have Complex PTSD and probs like you have mood swings. I am 46 and always been against meds. For less than 6 months, I am on 150mg of sertraline and all mood swings have stopped..Now I can take stock if you get me..;)

Thanks guys really appreciate the help and support, it just seems like everyday is a constant struggle. Fighting through quicksand to get to the light.... But I'm not going to give up... sooner or later that vine to pull me out will come! ☺

Hi folks ,

I do believe medication, with other / talking therapies work . I've seen 3x colleagues who have missed their meddies or think they are sound without the meds in a right state compared to when taking their meddies regular they can hold a conversation.

Depression is to monitor, use self-help site & get support from therapies http://www.getselfhelp.co.uk/index.html I do a lot of planning with little action But eventhou I've learnt from using the www get self help to identify more about me ...Just hope something may help someone .

HI, I was told about someone who was celeb status, well known dancing group of the 70's and 80's. She had severe Bipolar and was in and out of hospital and eventually committed suicide. She was on Lithium at the time and other prescribed drugs, don't know which other ones she was on. My hubby (or I should say Ex hubby. I always refer to him as hubby, its more simpler as we are still friends) knew her as she was his close family. Anyway, hubby has also got severe Bipolar, he is going through bad times himself right now and has been for some time ( as well as terminal illnesses). At the time of his step-daughters death which affected him badly. He had tried to talk to her many times over many years to try and turn her bad thoughts and feelings, she has been in and out of hospital a few times too. They both suffered/suffer from the same illness and she always asked him things and rang him in the middle of the night to talk to him about the bad thoughts and feelings she was going though as he understood her and talked her down as he had/has the same thoughts and feelings himself at times, but eventually, the inevitable happened to his step-daughter and hubby has never gotten over it even though it was, I think 6 years this year ago now. He still talks about her with me as he keep thinking about what happened to her, he tells me about the way it all happened and what he saw has become an ugly nightmare for him. Hubby came in one day and the look on his face told me that his step-daughter had committed suicide. I said she's dead ain't she? He said, yes. I even knew how she had done it. That day I cried and quite a few days after knowing what she was going through and hubby was in a bad state too.

It is so sad that people go through this. I advise talking to someone who would listen and/or could give help and advise , someone who understands what your going through. I only know what I have seen myself, but I couldn't give the right advice on the subject even though I have been around Manic Depression/Bipolar all my life. My father had Manic Depression now called Bipolar, His problems started during ww11, he committed suicide October 1962.

Depression, Manic Depression/Bipolar is a delicate subject that should be delt with by authorised people. I also think it is also a good idea that someone who has the same condition and can relate to what another person is going through should talk about their own issues with each other.

I find all mental Illness, has a route cause and if it is an Illness like bipolar. You can always take stock of whats around us that's triggers us to react or have mood swings...These are the things I have been focusing on for over 10 years now and changing the roots now so I can atleast have a balanced life even if I have to change and gain new people around me. x Also some one of the reasons I gained people is they have the empathy needed to help me along..
