Hello ladies,

Today I want to ask you how menopause has affected your life. We know that the most common symptoms of menopause are hot flushes, mood changes, vaginal dryness and disrupted sleeping. These symptoms are said to generally last about a year but it can vary from person to person.

Did you experience these symptoms when you were going through menopause? How long did they last for? What were the severity of your symptoms? Did you seek out Menopausal Hormone Therapy (MHT) or let nature take its course?

Let us know in the comments below!

I had a full hysterectomy in my 30's and went straight into menopause, which the Gynaecologist warned me about. Immediately, I was put onto HRT and was on it for years until I re-located last year. On arrival here, and when requesting a renewal prescription from a local Doctor, I was told 'you don't need it' and was taken off it!

Hot flushes, mood changes, vaginal dryness and lack of sleep are definitely still symptoms, but the Doctor insists he won't put me back on it? Why I don't know.

I'm due to go for bone density scan next week and know that Carbamazepine and Phenytoin could have affected me, but still miss my HRT. My hormones were then in tact and I felt so much better!

My wife started to have problems in her early 40's but her doctor ( male ) wouldn't even consider that it could be menopausal, at the time there was no female doctors in the practice and when one came she was only there a couple of days a week. When my wife went to see her she seemed reluctant to go against he more senior colleague. This went on for a couple of years until a new female doctor joined the practice and immediately said she was menopausal and she got the help she needed ( h r t ) . My wife had no female relatives to compare whether they had early onset of the menopause but her father said that her mother who had died age 44 had already gone through it and despite this information the doctor still refused to consider it.

Update on bone density scan which I now put down to medication of Phenytoin & Carbamazepine (for epilepsy) and HRT... Confirmed with in the hip and Osteoporosis in the spine. When diagnosis was made, chatting to the nurses afterwards, they confirmed that HRT is no longer used for treatment due to this factor.

I have since been put on Adcal-D3 and Risedronate Sodium for Osteoporosis.

I am also Hypothyroid which has a lot to do with hormonal imbalance, and am on Levothyroxine 75mcg daily.

I admit I was better off on HRT for several years, which alleviated the symptoms of Menopause.

I would all lively ladies who are going through menopause or over 50 take vitamin D3 and K2. Do not take calcium supplement. You can get that enough from leafy green. Calcium from food along with above to supplements reduce the bone density issue. You also need to do aerobic exercise too. HRT for long time is not safe.

My menopause finished and all was good but since having breast cancer and being on anastrazole my menopause has returned I get really hot in the day and at night cant sleep as it is very uncomfortable what with wearing a full sleeve and glove for my lymphoedema it makes the hot flushes worse I do use cream for my arms and hand ,also have special wipes for down below which I do find helps to but it is hard when the weather is hot have a fan in bedroom ,one on table in front of me also have one I take everywhere when going out ,but I do hate feeling uncomfortable, but since breast cancer I seem to suffer with emphysema copd already had 2 chest infections been in hospital for 3 days had loads of meds ,nebulizer, and antibiotics and steroids injected in a canderel in my arms came out of hospital Monday afternoon but still have N H S nurse popping in to see how I'm doing

My periods stopped in 2010 but ive only recently been told im in my menopause i have real problems with hot flashes this summer has been a nightmare. The night time seems to be the worse i have a fan on all night. Otherwise i wouldnt get any sleep. Its hard enough with the fibromyalgia let alone the menopause as well. I try and have a mid day nap now as i dont get enough sleep during the night. Depression is getting worse and so is my anxiety attacks.

I had a hysterectomy at 30 and was told I would have a normal menopause as they had left my ovaries. I then got diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis in my early 40s so I don't actually know when I went through it but do experience vaginal dryness, hot flushes(thats RA) and loss of libido (drugs) so I guess its happened but do not know when.
