My daughter has Epilepsy and Autism. She is on high medication and at 22 she has really bad (sometimes pustular acne) She never had it nearly as bad as this as a teenager. She is on Zonegran 50 mg(zonisamide) 1 twice a day. Perampanel (Fycoma) 2mg 2 tablets daily. Keppra (Levetiracetam) 1 g in the morning and 750 mg at night. Vimpat (lacosidamide) 150 mg 1 twice a day. Even with all the medications she still get seizures and our doctor wants to add an additional tablet, Tegretol. She also is on Fultium D3 one daily. Has anyone else had a similar experience and did they get closer to finding out which of the tablets caused the Acne?

Hi @alwyn.reilly

How are you today?

I am sorry to hear about your daughter's struggle with acne. It seems like there she does have quite a few medications. I will tag a few other members to see if they have any experience with acne and their medications.

@Arthur1234 @KleboldKlan @Ombliss22 @Josehc @Nomiedu @Kelly21 @laracroft44 @auTizzy @simkya @GemmaC88 @Melocoton @InsanityBeforeDawn @Belly22 @lesmal @Crazy4matt @inspirationalley @lassyxo @Sarahbee @Jems20 @silentjourney @LeniaNdere @tlangdale @rachip2022 @jtemple3 @Khazin @aehash88 @WillowsAcolyte @Petcarer

Do you take any of the following medications: Zonegran, Perampanel, Keppra, Vimpat, Fultium D3? Do you have any side effects? Is acne one of them?

What do you suggest @alwyn.reilly do to get to the bottom of her daughter's acne problem? Any advice will help!

Take care,

Lizzi

@alwyn.reilly ... Thank you for your post above. I am so sorry your daughter is struggling with acne caused perhaps by the medication she is on.

I have had epilepsy for 49 years now, and always struggled with allergies due to my mother's genes. I've been on 9 trial medications and still my seizures are not controlled.

I have had to take 10mg cetirizine (antihistamine) permanently to try and alleviate rashes, etc., together with stopping the usage of make up, fragranced and colored creams, shampoos, soaps and more. I use hypoallergenic soap, cream and shampoo now.

Also many AED'S cause allergies and/or acne. My suggestion would be to ask your doctor for a referral of your daughter to a dermatologist who has the experience, qualifications and knowledge for this condition.

I have sent you a friend request also should you wish to communicate via personal message.

I have been on Zonisamide, Lacosamide, and am weaning off Briviact which is the other name for Keppra. I have also been on Tegretol in the past.

@lesmal Thank you for your reply. We did go to a dermatologist but he could only offer treatments and said if we could pinpoint one of the drugs that was responsible it would be helpful .Now there are worse, much worse things in life as acne but as she already has Autism and Epilspsy, I would love to be able to help. We adopted her from Guatemala when she was 6 months old.

thanks again for the reply.

Alwyn
