I have recently spent 26 days in hospital because I have two fistula. One from my redundant bowel (I have two stomas) and another leading to my vagina. I have a pool of fluid in my pelvic area. Following an examination under anaesthetic surgeon said he could not operate to resolve the problem. He tried to investigate up the anus but because I have previously had an artificial sphincter it is now full of adhesions nd scar tissue. Couldn’t get far up but using camera what he did see is badly damaged tissue. Bowel a solid mess .Vagina a real mess too. Basically two holes, one leading to the pelvic cavity and the other leading to the vagina. Fixing holes not possible for me. Cannot afford any further damage to small bowel.

Hi @lacemaker
I am sorry about your recent long hospital stay and current situation, thank you for sharing. If fixing the holes is not possible, what is the next move? This sounds really challenging to manage, I hope there is a something that can be done...
Let me see if anyone else would like to share:

@LizziB can only be managed by myself. If it goes septic again I will have to go back into hospital for management again.

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
An anal fistula is a small tunnel that develops between the end of the bowel and the skin near the opening of the bottom (anus). It’s usually caused by an infection near the anus, which results in a collection of pus (abscess) in the nearby tissue. When the pus drains away, it can leave a small channel behind.
In most cases, surgery is recommended. If you are concerned you have an anal fistula, bring it up with your GP, they may refer you to a specialist.
Symptoms include skin irritation and discharge around the anus, pain when you sit or take a poo.
Have you ever experienced an anal fistula? What symptoms did you have? How long did you have it?
