I had my toe joints fused over40 years ago as I have a very mild form of spina bifida. I have found it difficult to wear certain shoes as my toes no longer are able to grip to keep shoes from slipping and I suffer from bunions and corns. However as my operation was 40 years+ ago things will have changed and no doubt after care and such should have improved. It did relieve some of my pain however and I have not regretted getting done.

Thank you for your response. Did you lose lateral movement in your feet? My main concern is how much mobility I will have after the surgery and how it will affect my career - I love what I do but things are becoming increasingly difficult.

Hi all,
I'm new to this site and I joined to try to get as much information and advice as possible in order to understand and manage my arthritis. I have it in both feet and, as I ride horses and run a stud farm for a living, I'm on my feet all day. I have had cortisone injections in both feet in conjunction with an anti-inflammatory and painkillers. These are not as effective anymore and I am considering surgery to fuse the bones. Has anyone had this done ? How long was the recovery period? Any advice would be most welcome!
