I have chronic brittle asthma and COPD as well as diabetes , oesteoarthritus ,the onset of oesteoporios in my left hip and other problems but I try to never let them get the better of me .There is always someone worse of than me and I have so much to be grateful for not least a brilliant family . I try not to burden them to much as they are all disabled to some degree or another but find talking things through helps .That is why I go on forums like this , use Facebook ,write poetry or if things are really bad talk to my granddad , the only problem there is that he has been dead for over 30 years ! I find that as long as you are honest with people it's fine and a lot of youngsters , I am 58 , have started asking my advice which is lovely as I feel I am giving something back and have a purpose

Hi Jazzy C, I totally agree with you talking is good for you,,,,I can see you have a few problems there but you seem to keep your chin up as best as you can a bit like me,,but it comes to a point when your in a lot of pain it does get us down sometimes, that is normal and difficult at times to say to people who don't understand wot we are going through,,and fight another day,,,as they say there is someone worse off,, but when your in a lot of pain you don't see that,,,it becomes about ourselves and not being selfish whatsoever,,,, chin up, SPK soon
Andy,,,

It is great to read all the comments , I find it really helpful and comforting .At the moment I am not at my best , I feel like I am going mad . I am 58 , had what I thought was the menopause 3 years ago but just recently getting worse over the last 6 months I have been getting hot sweats . Already tonight I have woken up drenched in sweat and itching all over twice . I know that tomorrow I will wear a short sleeved top and still feel to hot it is crazy. I went to the doctors and all they could say was they will give me a blood test when I am clear of cold which will be sometime never .Sorry to go on but it is really beginning to get me down and that's not me , I am normally fairly up beat .

Hi jazzy, I think we all get days when we feel down and less than our normal cheery selves and that is perfectly normal and totally allowed. I don't think its possible to be upbeat all the time especially when you haven't had enough or disturbed sleep. Something I found really useful for night sweats is actually a dog cool pad! You can get people ones from companies like Amazon and Coppers of Stortford. It's basically a gel pack either big enough for your head or full length that you lie on and it is heaven! It doesn't heat up when you do and stays blessedly cool. I even carry it in the car on hot days. It folds up so could fit in your bag. Not expensive but so worth it. xx

Starting new pads for arthritis today , like with a lot of things I couldn't get them on the NHS so had to pay for them but if they work it will be worth it . Hopefully also starting a new treatment for my asthma soon , consultant keen but because it is expensive has to get board's approval . It's sad when money takes priority over what is best for the patient but never mind . Feeling much more positive for the future .Take care everyone
