Hello everyone,

If you haven’t already seen in the news, many countries in Europe and elsewhere in the world are starting to discuss or put measures in place to end the COVID-19 lockdown.

In his address last night, the Prime Minister Johnson announced an easing of restrictions regarding the lockdown rather than simply ending it.

The Government has established five tests that will have to be met before considering an end to the lockdown:

  • Ensuring that the NHS has sufficient capacity
  • A sustained and consistent fall in the daily mortality rate
  • Reliable data showing a decreasing rate of infection
  • Adequate supplies of tests and PPE for demand
  • No risk of a second peak of the virus

In addition, a new COVID Alert System, determined by the R number (the rate of COVID infection) and the number of Coronavirus cases, has been put in place to indicate how strict social distancing measures must be. It includes five alert levels, Level 1 meaning COVID-19 is no longer present in the UK and Level 5 meaning a critical material risk of overwhelming the NHS.

Starting Wednesday, people in England who "can't work from home" will be encouraged to return to work, but should avoid public transport if possible. From this date people in England will also be able to spend more time outdoors for leisure, including unlimited outdoor exercise, sport, or sun in parks. The PM also indicated that starting June 1, England may be in a place to reopen primary schools, shops and nurseries in phases, and hopes that some public places (including restaurants, cinemas and places of worship) may reopen starting July 1.

The Welsh, Scottish, and Northern Ireland governments have indicated that they will not be following with the June 1 date for primary schools. Decisions are awaited regarding the opening of shops and other businesses.

What do you think about this easing of restrictions? Is it too early? What do you think the impact will be on those who are extremely vulnerable or at risk? Do have any questions? Have you had any further information from your GP or medical team?

Feel free to share your thoughts and questions below!

Take care,

Courtney

@Shaun333

Thank you Shaun for letting me know what does NASH stand for. If your wife has got this, then I suppose you know the do's and dont's of it all, such as low fat or no fat diet, improve immunity by doing exercises, taking Vitamin C 1000 mg/day, and Zinc supplements. Have adequate sleep, as it is when one sleeps, that the Liver gets rejuvenated. I do hope that she improves before her next test. Good luck

@Shaun33‍

Hello Shaun

Foods that help lower blood sugar are, Chives, squash, grapes, Carrots, Parsley Romaine lettuce, Cinnamon dark chocolate. These are polyphenols and eaten in combination are good. Diet containing high Fibre should be consumed more of, rather than fatty, sugary foods. Avoid Kale as it is full of toxic chemicals. Occasionally its okay but not on regular basis. Have diet high in Fibre, such as Cereals such as Fruit N' Fibre, Bran Flakes Sultana Brand All Bran Original Bran Flakes Golden crunch and all plant based foods are very good Alpro Soya Original, chilled unsweetened would be helpful rather than dairy milk.

To increase the Metabolism, exercises are important. I don't know your wife's capabilities whether or not she is able to exercise, but start of slow and increase it as able. A simple walk every day would be good. Increase the distance gradually. There are a lot of chair based exercises for seniors on the internet, Chair yoga, Balance, Flexibility Breathing, Chair boxing etc. Keep moving is the order of the day. Avoid sitting for too long. It is very important to remain positive as it counts a lot. Positivity attracts positive karma and Negativity attracts negative Karma. Spend just 10 minutes each day sitting quiet by the open window/door and do deep breathing. Inhale deeply raising your arms above your head and exhale, forcing all the air out of your lungs forceful while lowering the arms. All the above is not a quick fix. You have to be patient and be prepared to work hard and be diligent Slowly but surely, she will begin to improve Meals should be taken at regular intervals to avoid blood sugar falling too low. Some carbs are essential, such as Bananas Pasta bread, but only only slice, potatoes but no more than a couple of tablespoons at a time. Grapes, no more than 10, avoid cheese if you can, Fruits containing high sugar should be eaten sparingly as they count as an exchange. Fill your dinner plate with more green vegetables to fill the hunger.

I think I have given you enough for now. I will be interested in knowing how she is getting on. If you don't mind, how old is she, and is it Type one or Type 2 Diabetes, and is she on Insulin or Metformin, tablet controlled. Good luck and keep in touch. Hope this helps

I have been watching the television and it does not make me feel I am not in danger if I go out. I have been shielding for the last four months, and the world seems to carry on without my help, so I will not be going out this side of Christmas.

@Patontoby‍

I feel the same as you. I have no intention of mingling with the crowds or go to the shops. I shall continue with my online shopping. I have not gone out for the past 4 and a half months other than for a walk in the quiet fields behind out house where you meet no one. How ever, I will attend medical appointments if necessary, with a mask and gloves and social distancing Keep safe everyone.

Hi  I think that the government has made a big mistake in easing the lockdown early . 2 days ago we where told we have to start wearing face covering to enter all shops and restaurants . But this should have been demanded at the start in January . Not 6 months later . Hundreds of lives have been lost ,my be some could have been saved .. now they are thinking of making us wear surgical gloves in the next week or so ..  do they relies people will have to change their gloves for every shop cafe news agency bank etc . I wish the government would listen to the sage ,who ,  and other scientists  and stop making it up as they go along... are we going to have a second wave of covid_19 yes most definitely and it will be a lot worse.. Keep safe

Wore a mask on public transport for the first time today... Couldn't breathe but did the right thing and followed the rule. The city is like a 'ghost town'.  So sad.

I won't wear in shops and will do online shopping for cleaning and household items which can wait for delivery. My husband is good and does the food shop for me every 2 weeks.

Masks should have been brought in months ago not 4/5 months later!

I don't listen to the news anymore on the TV.

Stay healthy.
