Eye problems are a concern. I think it's called Iritis where the eyes are so red and sore that conventional eye drops won't fix it. Then of course there is the bowel problems....and also chest pain which could be easily mistaken for a heart attack. If anyone suffers that type of pain get it checked out immediately...just in case.

I've had back and joint pain since as long as I can remember. It wasn't until I developed uveitis that I got my diagnosis. My lower back and hips are the worst.

Hiya, yes I am the same but now have bowel problems, sores on my skin and all sorts of other problems. The Uveitis is so bad now that I can barely see. But will soldier on regardless. Hugs G

It's fascinating to me how AS affects all areas of the body. I'm also dealing with the chest pain. My doctor told me it's essentially the sternum and ribs fusing together. It's awful.

I live with pain every day. I hate having to take pain killers but I have to take blood pressure tabs, and blood thinners since i broke my knee and foot coming off my Harley - going too slow around a bend, stupid really. I've had to give up the bike now and stick to the car. My bladder, bowels, wrists, scoliosis, knees, oh knees. can't sleep much , pain wakes me up. lumbar region and Sacro ILLIAC joint - I'm in agony with that every day. can't bend over to put my socks on now. think my spine is going stiff , maybe fusing. Bladder has prolapsed because of pinched nerves in the spine. feet hurt bad some days. especially tendonitis in both Achilles ankles. It affects my eyesight later in the day when I'm tired. Yeah,, forgot to mention the sweats and ribs that sometimes feel like someone has hit me with a cricket bat!
Just shoot me!

Both my daughter and I have AS newly diagnosed after decades of trying to get answers for the deep, burning, nagging pain in our spine, neck and hips. All we got was "It's wear and tear, take these" and the odd mention of physiotherapy! This was early 20s for me and teen years for my daughter, so wear and tear was a ridiculous suggestion, but we trusted our GP at the time!
We both describe the pain as feeling like someone has their balled up fist right into the nerves of your joints and they're pushing and pressing hard into it. Movement definitely helps and bending over something at waist height, like the back of the sofa or kitchen worktop.
It doesn't help that so called specialists won't accept that women get AS and they have different symptoms to men! For us, it affects our hips and pelvis as well as spine and cervical spine; the worst symptom for me is cervical spine, where bone on bone causes migraines.

Hello everyone,
Which symptoms do you struggle with - and what do you do to manage them?
Good day to you all,
Marina
