How do you deal with people who tell you to "pull yourself together"? I always get hurt and frustrated. I can't seem to explain well enough to people around me, that depression is a disease - I can't just snap out of it.. I just become more sad when people push me like that. But I don't know what to say to them. I always just shut up. I need to learn to stand up for myself, but it is hard when I am already struggling.

Hello webberty1983.

I contacted "unregistered user" to give them your message and the feedback was very positive. He/she will return to Carenity when he/she is feeling better.

Thank you for helping him/her - it is much appreciated by both Carenity and by the member.

All the best,

Marina

Hi everyone,

How are you doing? I was scrolling through some of our *very old* discussions today and this one really stuck out to me.

Have you ever been told to "pull yourself together" or something similar talking about your mental health? How do you react to people who don't understand or are intolerant of your mental illness?

@Dolphin74, I'm sorry to hear that. How do you react when it happens? Are you able to make others understand?

Take care,

Courtney

I just feel if it was easy to pull your self together then we would makes me feel numb I've been on anti depressants for 20 years on and off and had some council on and off and I get used to someone and open up then it stops then I have to start all over again from beginning instead of carrying on
