Hi I am new here.  I am struggling a bit lately.  I was diagnosed with stress, depression and anxiety in 2001 and was medically retired in 2004.  In 2008 we moved to France to try and start a new life.  I love life here and would never want to move back to the UK but I do get lonely as my husband works full time in the UK and is only back every two or three weekends.  I do have some friends but it isn't like it was in the UK life is very different here.  The medical care is superb but still I am suffering with depression.  I went back to the UK in September to pick up a new puppy and that should have been exciting but ever since I have been severely depressed and binge eating.  My Doctor has changed my medication and that seems to be helping the binge eating but I still feel depressed.  I can't seem to shake this one off.  Would love to hear from you with ideas to pull through this.  Thank you.

Is their any groups you could attend locally for any interests you have. Or maybe as you have stated you have just got a new puppy you could try and meet some likeminded dog walkers who you could talk to just for an hour on your local park each morning whilst walking your dog. I know it can be extremely hard to get out and meet new people but having a dog can be a great way to break the ice with people. And even if it is for an hour each morning it will give you some human contact and can be a great ice breaker for the awkward silence when meeting new people, as when them awkward moments come up when you just don't know what to say you can simply just discuss the dogs.

I too struggle to get out and do things and it is hard sitting around alone, I hope these suggestions help.

Regards

Ben

Loneliness, isolation can be very Depressing. A recent survey by Age UK amongst the elderly said that most if not all that live on their own (due to their partners death) are Depressed.
Have you learnt the language? Are there any classes to learn french. Do you have any hobbies or interest groups you could join locally??
WoMan, was not designed to live alone. Are there any other english speaking people around. I know that being depressed makes it hard to venture out. A good friend of mine used to take me out for a coffee or meal......... to get me out of the house and make me have a conversation.....
